Business Profile

About Andy Farrer I am an award-winning landscape photographer best known for my atmospheric images of Dorset, especially of my beloved home peninsular of The Isle of Purbeck.

My photographic journey began while I was still at school, where we were fortunate enough to have a darkroom and a fantastic art teacher with a real passion for photography. I was able to use the darkroom at lunchtimes and spent many hours engrossed in developing and printing negatives. It was very quickly apparent that I wanted to learn more, so after graduating school, completed a two year, full-time photography diploma at Art College in Bournemouth.

Over the next decade or so, I tried various genres, worked in studios, print labs, shot freelance and even had a photography shop, but it was only when digital photography started to become more mainstream that I started taking landscape photography seriously.

The advancements in camera and digital processing technology were exciting. I loved every second of capturing the great outdoors and found processing the images afterwards in the "digital darkroom" the turning point in my creativity. Blending my traditional photographic training and colour knowledge with a digital workflow was a creative and liberating process.

I set about showcasing the stunning Dorset landscapes which serve as an endless source of inspiration. I have walked countless miles along The Jurassic Coast and driven many miles in the UK photographing the diverse landscapes on offer.

The highlight of my photographic journey was being awarded the prize of overall winner of the prestigious Landscape Photographer of the Year in 2015 with my image "Bat's Head in the Snow". It was an incredible honour that my image was chosen from the many thousands of entries by judges including Charlie Waite and Joe Cornish whose work I regard as the best of the best.

I am passionate about the process of printing. It is the final part of the creative process and committing the print to paper for others to enjoy is something I take great pride in. In 2017 I set up my own fine art print studio, Fine Art Inkorporated, with a friend, Carlo. The dedicated space is set up with the latest large format Canon printers, hot and cold dry mounting equipment and facilities to print and prepare images for display. Here, as well as printing for photographers and artists, I run the print aspect of my capture to print workshops, teaching clients the art of printing.

I lead workshops for Light & Land both in the UK and overseas and run personal tuition sessions. Currently I shoot with the Canon EOS R5 and a trio of RF lenses, the 15-35mm, 24-105mm and 100-500mm and Kase filters.

My images have been published in magazines such as The National Trust Magazine, Dorset Life, Outdoor Photographer, Amateur Photographer and on book covers.

I hope you enjoy the photographs on my website. Please feel free to sign up to my newsletter and visit again to see new work as I add it to the print shop and curated themed galleries.

"Review"

"I first met Andy in 2020 on a Landscape Photography: Fieldcraft, Processing and Printing workshop. Andy is a talented photographer and excellent tutor. He is both patient and encouraging. Andy and I have spent the last three months working together to improve my processing skills, particularly in Lightroom. In particular, Andy's skill and knowledge when it comes to the use of colour has really enabled me to move forward with my photography. I cannot recommend him highly enough."

"Review"

"I have been on several photography trips with Andy from The Jurassic Coast, photographing bluebells and rivers and the Canadian Rockies as well more technically focused courses.
I have always found Andy easy going, willing to share his undoubted knowledge with friendly and kind guidance (and always with a smile).
He has such a deep level of knowledge from composition and capture through processing and importantly final printing that I was grateful to use his print offering to produce mounted prints for my successful LRPS submission."

"Review"

"I can’t recommend Andy enough for his expertise as a photographer and for the excellent tuition that he delivers. I have learnt many new techniques on Andy’s workshops in both photography & print, which have elevated my knowledge massively."
